SPORTS ILLUSTRATED COVER: 2010 MASTERS PREVIEW
A photograph of Tiger Woods, taken last year at Doral during the third round of the 2009 CA Championship, is the cover image of this year’s Sports Illustrated Golf Plus Masters Preview issue. Previously unpublished, a watercolor effect was added to the picture by the Sports Illustrated imaging department in post-production.

BETA TESTING GIGAPAN’S EPIC PRO IMAGING SYSTEM
I was happy to be asked to beta test a new panoramic imaging device by Gigapan Systems, and have spend the past three months doing so. The Epic Pro imager builds upon the success of the company’s Epic series of robotic camera platforms, allowing for the use of full-sized digital SLR cameras. Always looking for ways to incorporate it into my assignments, the results of my work with the system have been displayed on the websites of both Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest. I’ve also devoted a section of this blog to my work in this unique corner of the world of panoramic photography.

JANUARY 2010 GOLF MAGAZINE COVER
A photograph of Phil Mickelson from my archive of images from the 2009 U.S. Open Championship at Bethpage State Park is the cover image of the January 2010 issue of Golf Magazine. The photo of Mickelson, shown giving a thumbs-up following an eagle putt in the final round of the tournament, was sold through my stock partnership with Getty Images.

TIGER WOODS-ELIN NORDEGREN PHOTO ON THE COVER OF PEOPLE MAGAZINE
A photo of mine, originally shot in 2004, is the main cover photo of People Magazine’s December 2009 issue. Contrary to some opinions shouted at me by drunken fans at golf tournaments, I am not a paparazzo–the image was shot during the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Ryder Cup. More images of Tiger and his wife, available for editorial license, can be found here.

PORTRAIT SERIES SELECTED FOR 2009 BEST OF ASMP
My ongoing “Manual Labor” portrait series was selected as one of twenty 2009 Best of ASMP projects by the American Society of Media Photographers. You can read the online feature, which includes an interview about the project and my approach to assignment photography, here.

PORTRAITS FEATURED IN TEXAS GOLFER MAGAZINE
The summer 2009 issue of Texas Golfer featured a ten-page retrospective of my portraits of Texas golf legends, as well as a cover image of my favorite picture from my most memorable assignment–a portrait of Byron Nelson, photographed in September 2006, two weeks before he passed away at age 96. Also inside are portraits of the likes of Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, Doug Sanders, and Jack Burke, Jr., as well as some of the current crop of younger golfers from the Lone Star state.
