Not that I like to box myself in, but a great deal of my sports and action work entails covering professional golf, primarily for Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest (and its sister publication, Golf World). So while I don’t necessarily relish the idea of furthering my reputation as a “golf photographer,” I do quite a bit of it, and would be remiss if I didn’t include a separate sampling of my work within the sport here.

I got to spend an afternoon with professional golfer Anthony Kim and his live-in entourage, comprising Rocky the pit bull, Winnie the terrier, and Norman the labradoodle, as well as his caddie, business manager, and, well, we’re still not sure what the other guy does. Photographed on assignment for Sports Illustrated at Kim’s home in Dallas.

An ongoing project which I add to my assignment portrait shoots if the situation warrants. Sometimes it’s unexpected, sometimes, as with the series on golf equipment innovators and contestants at the National Finals Rodeo (both photographed for Sports Illustrated), these images are requested and are integral to the assignment’s concept.

The Borregos of Monterrey Prep High School (also known as “Prepa Tec”) are far and away the most successful interscholastic American football program in Mexico. The team is so good, in fact, that once a year it needs to travel north to test itself against some real competition. Sports Illustrated assigned me to document the team’s trip to take on the Allen (Texas) Eagles, starting with a practice in Monterrey and accompanying the team on its trip to the suburbs of Dallas. It didn’t turn out well for Los Borregos, who discovered that, even after a 15-hour bus ride just to get there, they still had a long way to go.
